Daniel H. Cotter earns his law degree with honors from Georgetown University and completes a master’s degree. Admitted to the bar in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

1926

Daniel H. Cotter is admitted to the Connecticut Bar. The Cotter Law Firm is founded in Bridgeport, CT.

1943

Daniel H. Cotter is appointed City Judge in Bridgeport.

1949

John J. Cotter, son of Daniel H. Cotter, is admitted to the Connecticut Bar. Cotter & Cotter is formed in Bridgeport.

Thomas H. Cotter, brother of John J. Cotter, is admitted to the bar.

1962

Julian A. Sohon, husband of Nancy Cotter (sister to John J. and Thomas H. Cotter), is admitted to the bar. Cotter, Cotter & Sohon is formed in Bridgeport.

1981

Michael C. Sohon, son of Julian A. Sohon, is admitted to the bar.

1982

Daniel Cotter, son of John J. Cotter and older brother of Thomas G. Cotter, is admitted to the bar.

1984

Thomas Galvin Cotter, son of John J. Cotter, is admitted to the Connecticut Bar. Begins practicing law at Cotter, Cotter & Sohon.

1985

William L. Cotter is admitted to the bar.

Thomas G. Cotter is appointed Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commissioner, serving in Bridgeport and Stamford.

1997

Thomas G. Cotter steps down from the Workers’ Compensation Commission, returning to private practice. Begins serving as a Connecticut Attorney Trial Referee—a role he has held for over 20 years.

2008

The Cotter Law Firm is founded in Stratford, CT by Thomas G. Cotter, marking a new chapter in the family’s legal legacy. 

2022

Christopher Cotter, son of Thomas G. Cotter, joins the firm—extending the Cotter legal legacy into its fifth generation.
